COWICHAN VALLEY TRAIL (CVT) NEWS

During the 2021 budget deliberations, I asked for funding of the CVT between North Watts Road and the Town of Ladysmith boundary to be included in the 2021 budget. Only funding for the design was being considered for inclusion. CVRD staff have now presented an option to re-allocate a Trans Canada Trail Foundation grant and fund the CVT extension with a parking lot off North Watts Road under the 2021 Budget.

This is great news. Although it is unfortunate the CVT will not continue on the railway right-of-way through Ladysmith, the parking lot and safe crosswalk are badly needed.

This option will be considered at the CVRD Regional Services Committee Meeting on May 26th (see R3. Report from the Parks & Trails Division Re: Cowichan Valley Trail – North Watts Rd to Greenhill Rd Trail Completion and Funding).

  1. This is a very popular trail and we are hoping the proposal to extend it moves forward. Thank you.

  2. If we had a proper trail we wouldn’t have to park at North watts rd .We could park at coronation mall instead.

  3. The cross walk will be a safe and welcome addition to the trail system. This has been a dangerous crossing for bikers and pedestrians alike due to the drivers who do not adhere to the posted speed limits in the area.
Thanks for your hard work on this Lynne
